Getting To Bristol Airport ...

The airport can be found just south of Bristol itself, with the main car park in front of the terminal building, offering both short and long stay car parking.

Airport Parking At Bristol ...

Bristol Airport offers a variety of car parking options for those passengers arriving by car. This can depend on budget, length of stay and level of service required.

Those passengers being collected or dropped off, or for short duration trips, it is advised to use the short stay car park.

For those passengers flying for more than a few days, long stay parking is recommended.

There are two choices of long stay parking for passengers to choose from - the long stay car park with a transfer to the airport terminal, or meet and greet valet parking.

The hugely convenient valet meet and greet parking option means passengers do not need to worry about a transfer from the car park to the terminal.  Simply leave your vehicle at a pre-arranged time with the meet and greet Rep at the airport terminal before moving quickly to check in.  On your return, you vehicle is delivered back to you at the terminal on your return.

This service is ideal for passengers travelling with children, disabilities or special needs. Valet meet and greet gives extra time to busy corporate travellers. Saves those passengers with heavy bags or sports equipment from heavy loading on and off transfer buses.

The typical meet and greet service costs around £83 for one week and around £118 for two weeks, depending on the operator you choose.

Pre-booking valet parking is advised to ensure availability.

Alternatively, there is a Fast Track car park. The under cover car park is located within the short stay car park. It offers a quick and convenient link into the terminal.  Prices start from £11.00 for 24 hours or part thereof.

Arriving At Bristol Airport ...

As soon as you have arrived at Bristol Airport it is best to move straight to check-in so you can get seated all together and off load your main luggage for boarding onto the aircraft.

With security checks having increased in recent years do make sure that you arrive at the airport in good time - check-in times are detailed below - and it is worth leaving extra time in very busy periods.

Type Of Flight Check In Time
Long Haul Flights 3 HOURS before departure
European Flights 2 HOURS before departure
UK & Northern Ireland Flights 1 HOUR before departure

You must make sure you keep your luggage with you at all times - do not let anyone else carry your bags for you.  Equally, you must not allow anyone to carry your hand luggage for you.

Do not agree or offer to look after another passenger's luggage and do not carry anything onto the aircraft other than your own hand luggage. Alert a member of staff at the Airport if you notice any unattended packages.

When your aircraft is ready for boarding the gate number will be displayed on screens throughout the departure lounge. Make sure you keep any eye out for your boarding gate number, leaving good time to get there. In some of the larger Airports, it can take up to 30 minutes to reach the distant barding gates.

For more information on security checks visit the Airport Safety and Security section within this Fly Guide.

Flying ...

The following two sections of this Travel Tips page help you with staying comfortable on the flight and how to keep your children amused, especially on a long flight. There's also a step-by-step guide on Aircraft Comfort.

Your hand luggage will be all you are allowed to carry onto the plane so make sure it contains everything you need - it's not just for your passport, ticket and cash you know.

Will you or a member of your travelling party need prescribed medication? It's safer to put your valuables in your hand luggage rather than your main luggage. Do any of you have a cold, if so pack decongestants. It's worth packing a spare top and even a toothbrush if you experience delays.

In-flight meals can be fairly small portions so have something to eat before you get onto the plane, and pack some snacks in your hand luggage (Customs will not allow you to take fruit or dairy products on the Aircraft).

Pack some music, a good book and some magazines, even a crossword book or such like to while away a few hours.

Help yourself stay comfortable on the flight by drinking lots of water and avoiding alcohol - this will keep you hydrated and help to stop your hands and feet swelling. Take your shoes and socks off for a bit too. And pack some moisturiser for dry skin.

It gets cold in the aircraft so pack or wear a warm jumper , it can also double up as a pillow if you want to try and get some sleep.

Pack some earplugs and an eye mask if you have trouble sleeping with the normal aircraft and passenger noises.

And don't forget to pack travel sickness pills if you suffer.

The serious condition that is Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is where blood clots develop in the deep veins of the legs. This can happen when persons are on a long-haul flights as passengers have little or no exercise.

To avoid DVT to the best of your ability, make a conscious effort to walk around on the flight, wiggle your toes and do some simple leg stretches to try and get blood circulating.

For more advice on DVT, who is more at risk and how to help prevent it, visit the Department of Health website.- Click Here

  Step-by-Step Guide to Aircraft Comfort
  1. Upgrade Ask for a complimentary upgrade to Business Class or First Class (but if you ask it's best to be wearing smart attire). .
  2. Front Row Seats Ask for a front row seat or a seat by an emergency exit as these seats normally have extra leg room.
3. Aisle Seats Aisle seats will give at least one of your party some extra leg room to stretch out a bit. If you do get an aisle seat try and swap seats from time to time.
4. Pillow Think about buying a blow up neck supporter pillow or ask the Cabin Crew for a pillow.  Ear plugs can also help to shut out some of the onboard noises, so you can get to sleep easier.
5. Painful Ears Earplanes, and other such brands, help with painful ears. These special ear plugs equalise the air pressure on each side of the ear drum.  They are especially useful if you have a cold or allergy / sinus problems.
6. Dehydration Drink lots of water during your flight to stay hydrated.
7. Snacks In-flight meals can be small so pack you and your family some snacks.
8. Anxiety If you suffer from anxiety when flying why not try learning some simple breathing skills. Try some activities like a crossword, or a book that you can concentrate on.  It's worth talking to your Doctor if you are very concerned about flying - the doctor might be able to recommend something to help keep you calm before and during the flight.

Travelling with Children ...

If your children are enjoying the flight, because you'v reduced their boredom, the chances are you will have a good flight too. Follow these helpful tips and advice for a smooth flight.

Make sure you've packed some colouring books and crayons, soft back books and sticker books to keep your children amused.  Another good idea to while away some time is to wrap the different toys, so that each new activity is a surprise. Your child will also be offered an activity pack for when they are on the aircraft, this helps entertain them but don't solely rely on it..

Make sure you pack some toys and games that you can both play with - how about Connect 4 or Snakes & Ladders?

Flying with babies can be quite a scary thought - make sure you have packed plenty of baby food or formula milk just in case of delays, finger food and nibbles, some cold water sterilising tablets, spare nappies and plastic rubbish bags.

Also pack some spare clothes in case of accidents and also some warm clothes as the temperature drops in the cabin whilst flying so they will get cold. Also think about a blanket to wrap them up tight so they can fall asleep. Last but not least, some favourite toys to try and keep them amused.

Travelling with disabilities / Special Needs ...

Nowadays, most Airlines are very well equipped to assist disabled passengers or those with special needs.

If you or a member of your party are travelling with disabilities check that any special assistance required is included in the price of the ticket before booking. Also make sure the airline are fully aware of your disabilities or special needs well in advance of your travel dates.

When travelling in a wheelchair and you would like to stay in your own wheelchair to boarding, double check with your airline if this is possible before you leave for the airport.

Prepare to make your way to the boarding gates in good time as in large airports they can be situated very far away and take time to get to. You can pre-book special assistance vehicles for getting around the airport. Do book in advance however in case there are none available at your time of travel.
