In February 2005 Bristol International commenced its first stage of public consultation and published a Master Plan Statement of Intent setting out a broad overview of the potential options for the development of the airport and impacts of growing to eight to nine million passengers.
Air and noise pollution is therefore a concern for the local Bristol community. However, Bristol International Airport is committed to mitigating the effects its operation may have on those who live nearby.
However Bristol Airport will continually research views from the local community on the issues and concerns that need to be considered as the Airport develop the Master Plan further.
One of the most significant environmental impacts from airports is noise pollution, and for many of the local residents it represents one of the main causes of annoyance associated with living near Bristol International Airport. BIA operates a noise management strategy which includes:
- Restrictions on night flying through the operation of a night noise quota system
- Restrictions on engine ground running and use of auxiliary power units
- Noise abatement procedures for departing aircraft
- Monitoring of aircraft noise using noise monitors located in Felton and Congresbury
- Operation of a dedicated noise complaint line
Further airport development is not all bad as more jobs are created, the local area becomes more of a hub for regular flyers, and therefore, a positive effect can be realised on the house prices. |
